Election Campaign 2023
It’s election year!
As many of you will be aware, on October 14 this year, there will be a general election. What many of you may not know is that there’s a real chance that some of the great progress that has been made in driving up EV uptake over the last few years will be lost: specifically, parties have differing views on whether to maintain the Clean Car Discount and the Clean Car Standard.
We know that both these policies work: EV sales have gone through the roof – 20 percent of all new passenger car sales in 2022 were electric, currently one of the fastest rates in the world, and new vehicle CO2 emissions have reduced by 11% in just 18 months. This is great progress – and a trajectory we’re keen New Zealand continues on!
Better NZ Trust’s election campaign
So this year, we’re launching a campaign aimed at politicians, asking them to commit to keeping the Clean Car Discount and the Clean Car Standard. We’ll also be working to inform voters where each party stands on these policies by producing a ‘scorecard’ rating each party’s position.
We’ve already sent out letters to each of the major parties asking them for their positions.
Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be working out just how big we can make this campaign. A lot of that comes down to budget. And that’s where you come in.
How you can help
If you’re passionate about EVs, sustainability, and protecting progress on climate action, we’d really appreciate any donation you can make towards our campaign. Every dollar can mean more online ads, or contribute towards posters, to get our message out there. You can chip in here – thank you in advance.
DONATE TO OUR CLEAN CARS ELECTION CAMPAIGN
Over the coming weeks, we’ll share the creative we’re planning to run, and if we can, we’ll even look to launch a campaign-specific website!
In the meantime, if you have any ideas or suggestions for how we could make the campaign most effective, please drop us a line here.
If you would like to be kept informed about this specific campaign, we will be using a separate mailing list from now on. You can subscribe to that list here.
