Martin was the EVworld, Ecotricity EV Champion of the Year in 2018.
Martin and his wife have four daughters and live in Canterbury, where Martin works as a secondary teacher.
"There's something about having children, that kicked us into a little more "caring for the future" and being aware of climate change," says Martin.
An EV pioneer in New Zealand, Martin has owned two Nissan LEAFs and a Tesla Model X.
Soaking up the excess solar generation from his house was an unexpected benefit of owning electric vehicles. He also appreciates the radio more with less ambient noise in the cabin, enjoys the smooth ride, and feels proud to be spending his transport fuel costs with New Zealand electricity providers, instead of sending them offshore to foreign oil companies.
